Maria Luna Ghanime, M. Sc. – Research Associate
Maria Luna Ghanime
Maria Luna Ghanime has been a doctoral researcher at the Chair of Autonomous Systems and Mechatronics, Department of Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Information Technology, FAU Erlangen–Nuremberg since September 2025. She is working within the DFG-funded project “Synergy-Based Model Predictive Interactive Control for Hand–Arm Systems”, with a research interest in human-centered control, including neuro-inspired control and multi-modal intent detection in tasks such as gait and manual object manipulation.
She received her bachelor’s degree in Computer and Communications Engineering from the American University of Beirut (Lebanon) in 2021 and her master’s degree in Neuroengineering from the Technical University of Munich in 2024. Her master’s thesis investigated multi-modal step initiation prediction for lower-limb exoskeletons using wearable sensors such as EMG, IMU, and pressure insoles.
Research interests: Human–robot interaction, neuro-inspired control, intention detection and sensory feedback, assistive and rehabilitative robotics, embodiment and agency, human-likeness
