Development of an electomechanical stimulationchamber for engineering muscle tissue

In a cooperation between the chair of medical biotechnology (MBT) and ASM an automated solution for the de- and recellularization of muscle tissue is beeing developed.

During the step of recellularization a collagen-matrix is being repopulated by new cells. A prerequisit for this step to lead to growth of a functional muscle is mechanical and electrical stimulation.

There is a first concept on how this chamber might look like. Goal of this thesis would be to finalize and implement the concept. This project would be well suited for a Team project, due to the many different tasks required to achieve this goal. Applications for Bachelor, Masterthesis and even research internships are still welcome. Depending on the format some of the subtasks of course could be excluded from the thesis.

Tasks

  • 3D Design of the chamber
  • Implementing force and position control for magnetic actuation
    • Implementing computer vision solution to determine position
    • Include electrical simulation from pulse generator
    • Investigating potential interference between electical stimulation and the magnetic actuation system

Requirements

  • Student in Autonomy Technology, Mechatronics, Medical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computational Engineering
  • Interested / experienced in control systems
  • Interested / experienced in CAD
  • Iterested / experienced in computer vision
